President's Message - 2011

It is a great honor that has been bestowed upon me to be the NCRAAO President for the 2011 year.  I am looking forward to serving the membership by looking into ways to better our already great association.  As some of the founding members retire, the challenge will be to follow in their footsteps and continue working on professionalism and education in the future.

As the economic situation across the United States unfolds, it becomes more and more difficult for assessors to travel for education and networking as they have in years past.  The challenge is making every dollar spent toward education count.  That means the emphasis for NCRAAO education must meet the needs of the membership.  This organization was created to make education and networking with fellow assessors more affordable due to the proximity of the 11 connecting states and the fact that they have similar issues when appraising properties for taxation purposes.  Less travel time means less costs and similar issues means education that is pertinent to your jurisdiction.

I am determined to visit as many of the membership states as possible this year as NCRAAO President and listen to the membership as they relay to me what they need and see for the future.  Working together for the benefit of the membership has been and should be the goal of NCRAAO.  That means the members have to do their part in communicating their concerns, dislikes, likes, etc. about the existing association.

Vendors are an important part of the success of NCRAAO.  A hospitality committee made up of vendors assists in the success of each annual conference.  The committee members as well as the vendors who attend, sponsor events, rent a booth, contribute to the vendor drawings, etc. all make the conferences possible; they are vital to the organization as a whole.

Kansas is hosting the 2011 Conference in Topeka, the state capital.  “Cool, Calm and Collected” is the theme!  We are looking forward to a great time and have several education choices already setup for the conference.  Check out the website at, as it is updated with the course schedule and conference information.  You all come and have a great time.

Let’s get excited about NCRAAO and share that excitement with other members in our states!  Do they even know they have FREE membership to this association?  Do they know they are missing out by not participating in the organization?  Let’s get them in the know and pass along what most of us already know, “NCRAAO is a beneficial and worthwhile association that just happens to be FUN!”
